I have the opening theme as a .wav file. However, its only 11khz mono (I
have an old soundcard). I haven't noticed any changes in the theme.
But, of course, I haven't been listening for them. I'll have to keep my
ears peeled from now on! Though, I can't see any reason anyone would
want to change the theme song.

By the way, I think you can download the theme song as a .wav from
http://rat.org. The file's called (I think) sonic-th.zip.
