BTAS was post-"Masters of the Universe" and other such dreck. Check
the Fleischer Superman shorts. You can see how much BTAS drew on
that style and retro look, but old Supe had a more human physique.

Yep. Anyone over the age of three or four who watches the last ep of
the first arc of the DIC SM (which was edited down from two eps of the
original) knows that despite the dubbing, the other Scouts besides Serena
very clearly died, and quite nastily as you say. Yet it was still
touching and poignant, with a subtlety that normal American fare
cannot, or does not, want to match.

But we knew that already. And SK has thoughtful dialogue and real
character development. Can't have that in a TedCo production, can
we? :(

No, it was just the kinder, gentler me :)

Though I must admit the thought of Captain Vapid meeting Pinhead has
a certain appeal.... :)

There was a scene in the old "Speed Racer" which gave me nightmares
when I was little. Something about a set of headphones with spikes
that drove into the user's head. I guess I was just impressionable
:)
