Mobius cultures, seemingly alternate to Earth

Well, I've been thinking about this for quite some time now, and I've
decided to throw out a few more assumptions of continent alternates...

Great Continent = America (shoot, look at Sonic... he's blue with red & white
sneaks! ;)
Robotropolis = A really bad Washington D.C ;-D
Downunda = Australia
Frozen North Sea = Umm... Greenland? I'd say Antarctica, but that's South...
Floating Island = Egypt

Here's some cultures...

Echidna = Egyptian
Wolf Pack = Indian
Arctic Mobians = Eskimo (who ELSE lives in the arctic?!)

But there's one thing about all this that bothers me. The Floating Island,
although Egyptianish, came from Downunda. However, no one ever said that the
continents on Mobius had to be exactly identical in location to those on
Earth.

Now about evolution... as most of you know, on Earth, creatures' ability to
thrive in certain climates and locations led to their evolution. It could be
that Mobius' continental drifting was somewhat different, thus causing the
evolutionary cycle to take a different path than Earth's own...?
