I've never been strong on the robobiotic/nanite scenario myself.
Because I'm something of a layman when it comes to the life sciences,
I've always worked under the model of a host/parasite relationship
between the robotic components (which attach to, work with, and
override the biological ones) and the roboticized body.

But that's just me.
