Hey!  Flutes aren't nearly as annoying as piccolos... clarinets on the
other hand... 

      Manx - fairly high, wimpy instruments, that can do a lot, but
who are rarely heard....

Oboe?

        MadCat - Slide whistle... maybe Glockenspiel?
