Perhaps they might develop a process to insert a long-lasting dye in
the hair follicles themselves, such that the actual color of each
hair is changed, to produce a pattern _from_ the actual fur, rather

  Anybody who knew how to work such a process in a human-populated world
would make a _fortune_ by eliminating grey hair.  Would likely be 
even more profitable in a Furry world, that's like having the ability
to change your skin color on a human.
