Yea, I've seen that happen (It's the only way to travel in Sonic 2 :') ).
Once again, my friend came up with a solution:
When Sonic grabs(takes out a power ring), mace the backgrounds blurred, and
thus simple. Also put blinking warning arrows on the edge of the screen to
warn of an incoming platform (so you will have time to react, and jump onto
it). Well, maybe you can skip the arrows, but I think that the blur is a good
idea.
