this is three sections out of a projected twenty or so.
some of the later sections are written already, but I can't
release them out of order..

(DJ Clawson's archive has last week's version.  just two
sections instead of three, and some minor edits)

note, these earlier sections may need to undergo major
revision without warning, if I run into a dead end.  so,
reader beware.  but I do have a rough outline of everything
already, so hopefully there won't be anything too bad.
