I haven't posted in a while, I've been too busy doing skoolwork and keeping
up with the other two mailing lists I'm on. Here are my comments on religion...

Since so many people consider religion such a controversial issue today,
they prefer not to bring it up. Except for the occasionally anomaly, when
was the last time anyone ever saw a kid-friendly Christmas special that even
mentioned religion? But now I agree with you; religion doesn't seem to have
a big presence. It might be like Japan, where the single largest religion
today has only about three million members. And with Japan's total
population being about 125 million, that's a lot of people who aren't tied
to any religion.

Maybe, but look at some Japanese series like Aa! Megami-sama for example.
It's absolutely dripping with religious concepts (however a weird and
tangled mixture of Norse mythology, Christianity, and plain artistic license
it is). No American series would even dare to forward such a notion for
fear of flak from religious and non-religious groups. Other Japanese movies
or series also make use of the idea of demons (presumably from Hell), and
that most definitely ties in with some form of religion even if it is not
stated or even implied. But then again, the Japanese don't have the same
BS&P restrictions that American TV has.
